“The Talk”: #2 Beauty through music

Preparing children to hear “The Talk” when they are eight-years-old  actually begins when they’re about three.  One way we lay the foundation is to enlarge our children’s capacity for beauty.   We mentioned last week that the beauty of the spring season really sets the stage for this discussion many times over. Music is another avenue that gives our children a dimension of understanding beauty. Soft, soothing melodies of a lullaby, jazzy instrumentals with a lively beat, clear strong tempos of fun, contemporary songs—music gives us feelings and inspiration and images. Beauty is an abstract concept, but as we point it out to our children, the conversation helps even little ones to begin to understand it. Giving our children a capacity for this will help them down the road to grasp the beauty of what God created for husband and wife.
